K-12 Energy Benchmarking Project - Educational Consultant

Applications are no longer being accepted for the Spring 2023 session. 

Are you a 6th-12th grade teacher interested in a hands-on project for your students that also pays you? The K-12 Energy Benchmarking Project will take you and your students on an energy-efficiency investigation of your school building using professional energy-auditing equipment. Educators involved in the K-12 Energy Benchmarking Project can earn $750 in consulting fees! Applications are no longer being accepted for the Spring 2023 session.

Requirements to earn $750:

  • Apply using the form at the bottom of this page by November 18, 2022.
  • Complete the Energy Baseline and Usage form and submit at least 12 months of the school's electricity and natural gas bills before December 16, 2022 (emailed to ksenergyprog@ksu.edu).
  • Meet with KEP staff (in-person or virtually) to create the project timeline before December 22, 2022.
  • Teach 10 lessons*, submit feedback forms after each lesson, and submit a project survey by May 24, 2023.
  • Students complete a pre- and post-assessment before the first lesson and May 24, 2023 respectively.

Limited spots are available and preference will be given to the first teacher in each school district. Applications for the Spring 2023 session were due November 18, 2022. Applicants will be notified of the results by November 28, 2022.

*There are 9 lessons we ask you to complete, with a 10th lesson for you to choose. The 9 required lessons are:

  • 04 Energy Baseline and Usage
  • 07 Full Equipment Training
  • 09 Lighting Systems Audit
  • 10 Electrical Appliances Audit
  • 11 Building Envelope Audit
  • 12 HVAC audit
  • 13 Data Loggers I
  • 14 Data Loggers II

For the 10th lesson choose from the options below. Whichever lesson you choose, be sure to conduct it in sequential order with the other required lessons.
