A student's hands are shown as he builds a small sailcar (base is corrugated plastic, wheels are wooden beads, skewers are axels, sail is turqoise construction paper)

Sailcar Challenge

This activity requires participants to design a wind-powered car. Regardless of age, everyone seems to have a great time with this – even adults! For younger children, assistance will be needed to use scissors and put the components together. For a written lesson and instructions, visit the KidWind REcharge lab activities page at https://www.kidwind.org/activities/recharge-labs.

The Kansas Energy Program also put together the video below to show how this activity might work if participants are allowed to use whatever materials they  have on hand. From our experience, that sure can add to the challenge!
