Workshop Details

Location: Kansas City Kansas Community College Technical Education Center M118 (6565 State Ave, Kansas City, KS 66102)

Are you curious about teaching wind energy in your classroom? Do you want to join the KidWind Challenge, but aren't sure how to begin? Maybe you've participated before and are looking for new resources! Join us and learn how to explore the power of wind energy with your students!

Who Should Attend: Recommended for teachers of grades 4-12. Workshops are open to formal and non-formal educators.

Description: This FREE workshop offers hands-on training to teach energy concepts to students in grades 4-12. Through interactive activities with Vernier materials and diverse curricula (KEP, KidWind, and NEED), attendees gain the skills and knowledge needed to integrate energy topics into their own curriculum. The training emphasizes real-world applications, problem-solving, and STEM skills, empowering educators to inspire the next generation of innovators.

Agenda: We'll walk you through a typical KidWind Challenge event day. You'll get to explore and test each aspect of the competition.

9:00-10:00 Registration, Intro to KEP, and the KidWind Challenge
10:00-10:40 Instant Challenge
10:40-10:50 Break
10:50-12:00 Wind Turbine Design
12:00-12:40 Lunch
12:40-1:00 Knowledge Quiz
1:00-2:30 Wind Turbine Testing (wind tunnel)
2:30-2:50 Judges Panel
2:50-3:15 Regionals, State, Worlds - Oh my!
3:15-3:30 Wrap Up

Included: Lunch, substitute reimbursement, mileage reimbursement, and a Vernier Wind Experiment Kit (valued over $130)!
